April 2000 NewsletterMerger CompleteBay City Credit Bureau (BCCB) merged with Credit Bureau, Inc. (CBI) on March 1, 2000. Mark Cormier, President of the BCCB said this about the merger, "I strongly feel the merger will serve our clients well. CBI will provide our clients with access to a wider range of services, they leverage advanced technologies and are highly regarded in the collection industry for their integrity. One of my main concerns about a merger was who would do an exceptional job in the future for the clients? Knowing the Barden family for as long as I have been in the business, I have no reservations of merging." Collection operations will be transferred to CBI's Jackson, Michigan office, which possesses a friendly and experienced staff. There will be no interruption in collection activity. Larry Dishaw, the Jackson Collection Manager, has roots in Bay City as he spent his first thirty years there. Larry grew up in Bay City in a beautiful home over on Stanton Street. Allow me to extend a hearty welcome to all of our new Bay City clients. We look forward to providing you exceptional results, competitive rates and a professional staff to assist you with your credit and collection challenges. One thing I have learned is that clients don't care how much you know, until they know how much you care.
Bob Barden, Jr. The Velvet HammerSpring is one of the best seasons. The crocuses and daffodils pop their blessed heads out, robins return with their husky winter feathers, and Michigan income tax garnishments arrive. Woohoo! State tax refunds are eligible for garnishment without the exemption that applies to regular payroll garnishments. That means if the debtor is getting a refund, the garnishment captures 100% instead of the 25% we normally get from a payroll garnishment. Bare in mind, there remain a few creditors that take precedent, like money owed to the state, other creditors who filed the garnishment before you, and a couple of others. But tax garnishments are the "velvet hammer." Clients no doubt have seen an increase in court costs since October of last year in our preparation to be the first in line to file. So get ready for some monster size payments and money coming in from debtors who would never voluntarily pay. Some single garnishments have captured over $5,000! Take it from someone who knows, when these calls come in, you can be certain the marital status of your parents will be questioned! (Tongue in cheek!!) I love spring, and for all the wrong reasons. Bob Barden, Jr. Calling All DentistsOnce again we will have an exhibitor booth at the upcoming Michigan Dental Association Convention. This year it will be held at The Grand Center, in Grand Rapids, down the street from the Van Andel Arena - home of the Grand Rapids Griffins! (A little hometown hockey mania - sorry!) The show begins Thursday, April 13th and goes through Saturday, April 15th. We hope that you will stop by our booth and say "Hi!" We enjoy the opportunity to see our clients, and to thank them for their business. Plus, you know we always have candy! For more information regarding the convention-everything from registration to hotel info-please see the MDA web site at: http://www.michigandental.org/. |
