Becoming a Client

August 2001

Meet the Gang - Tom Oldani!

FULL NAME:  Thomas Joseph Oldani

POSITION:  General Manager

LENGTH OF TIME IN THAT POSITION:  1 year

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:  To oversee collection operations for Credit Bureau, Inc. Collection Services Division

PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE IN THIS FIELD:  I’ve been with Bob Barden for over thirteen years.  He hired me because . . . “I think you have class.”  Man was he wrong.

FAVORITE ASPECT OF THE JOB:  All the fine staff we have.  It’s a pleasure to see the team work well.

LEAST FAVORITE ASPECT OF THE JOB:  When you’ve selected that piece of cool banana cream pie at the desert bar and after you bite into it you find out it’s Key Lime pie.  Yuck!

PERSONAL GOALS FOR YOUR POSITION:  Keep the number of fires on a daily basis under the number of minutes in the day.

FUNNIEST EVENT AT THIS JOB:  Consumer: “You guys should know I don’t owe this money.  It’s so clear that even Ray Charles can see that!”

GREATEST SUCCESS AT THIS JOB:  Convincing that consumer to pay his bill in full.

BEST BUSINESS ADVICE:  Surround yourself with good people who respect themselves and enjoy what they do.

QUALITY YOU MOST ADMIRE IN A PERSON:  The uncanny ability to never complain—about anyone or anything.  Very rare, this quality, and I try to exercise it as often as I can.  Also, my brother John, recently taught me about this one, “Just as much evil enters the world when one takes offense as when one gives offense.”  It makes me think twice about being offended by something someone says or does.  Often the offender is just speaking without thinking and not intending to create a scene.

PEOPLE WHO INFLUENCED YOU THE MOST:  My parents—their work ethic.  My wife—she still influences me every day.

IF YOU COULD HAVE ANOTHER JOB:  I always wanted to be an airline pilot.  Captain of a 747 with nearly 400 passengers on board, heading overseas.  What an extraordinary responsibility.  Employees often hear me reply to anyone who says “Oops!” with my immediate comeback, “Something you would never hear in the cock-pit of a 747.”

COLLEGE:  GO BLUE!  When we lose I bleed blue—need I say more?

AGE: 36

MOST RECENT BOOK READ:  Corporate Creativity.  A book of significant true stories on how to encourage “outside of the box” thinking in the workplace.  Learning some stuff I never knew.

MARITAL STATUS:  Married my only true love.

CHILDREN:  2.  A lovely, blue-eyed blonde named Kaelan—I call her “little girl” - who is 2 going on 20.  Infant boy named Keegan.  What a cutie.  Looks like a tiny old man.  Remember “Happy” from Disney’s Snow White? - that’s him!

COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT/ACTIVITIES:  Humane Society, Volunteer Childcare.  Love to build Adirondack chairs from cedar for my family and friends.

HOMETOWN:  Born in Genesee County, Flint, Michigan. Proud to be a Michigander.  But I moved away before my sixth month.  Spent my early years (primary to high school) in Littleton, Colorado.  I like to think of Colorado as my native state.  “Yassir, Ihm a cowbohy at heart.  Juz give me mah doody kickers an’ mah hat and Ihm happy!”

HIGH SCHOOL:  Attended two—Heritage High School in Littleton, Colorado, then Pioneer in Ann Arbor, Michigan

Relay For Life

August 10 and 11, Christian Family Center, Adrian, Michigan

We know many of our customers will be at the American Cancer Society Relay for Life and we look forward to seeing you there.  If you are undecided about whether or not to attend, here are a couple of incentives to get you there.

The most obvious is that cancer affects almost every family.  But, we have another incentive.  The staff of the Adrian Credit Bureau will have a dunk tank.  We know our customers and their clients would love to take a shot at us!

So there it is - an invitation to both show us that everyone loves the Credit Bureau, and make a donation to the American Cancer Society at the same time.

Come and dunk your favorite Adrian Credit Bureau staff member.  See you there!

Where:     Christian Family Center

                111 Wolfcreek Highway, Adrian, Michigan

When:      August 10 and 11

Opening ceremonies Friday the 10th at 5:45pm,

                ends 6pm Saturday
